I know the deep seated hatred most people feel for advertising. I have felt the blood boiling, visceral, gut wrenching reaction it induces in most people. It's like the dog shit by your mailbox. It is beyond inconsiderate. It's rude and pushy.

It seems obvious that computers are good at performing repetitious tasks quickly and without error. Current consumer computer hardware operates at speeds surpassing 3Ghz. That's 3 billion cycles per second. Even at one computer instruction per cycle that's impressive. The layperson can easily recognize how this far outstrips human ability.

Why then do we still have this model of humans performing data entry? The computer sits at an input driven event loop waiting for the human to key something in. The answer is sensors. An array of sensors can sit on an assembly line and count parts faster and more accurately than any human. The true power of computers comes from the I/O devices we connect to them. One of the greatest travesties of the modern age is that instead of computers serving humans, we have humans entering data into terminals when a sensor would be more efficient and effective for the task. In effect, humans serve computers instead of the other way around. Little thought is given to automation and as a result we languish, slaves to the system we created. It's time for a new system.

K. So my brother just got a new Nokia N900. It has 32 gigs of storage and has a micro-sd slot. I'm a bit nonplussed by the 600Mhz processor. I thought we blew by that speed limit quite a while ago. I don't think it has any place in a $500 dollar product.

What could possibly make a device with a 600Mhz processor in it worth $500? Linux and Open Source. Coupled with the fact that competing devices come with similarly clocked processors and lame, underpowered, closed source operating systems.

You've got the iPhone, but you're pretty much stuck with one carrier for that. I don't know about you, but I generally hate being told there's only one way to do it. I really like the way Apple designs their products for ease of use and aesthetics. The N900's shape reminds me of a used bar of soap. Does the fact that it runs Debian excuse this? Apt-get appears to be working, so the answer may be yes.

Either accept that the aims of the enemy are just and withdraw or reject them and advance. It's an easy decision and should not require protracted deliberation.

Some have espoused the opinion that liberals have Stockholm syndrome and are identifying or sympathising with the terrorists(or whatever you wish to call them). I refuse to believe this as I cannot imagine any sane woman(liberal or otherwise) advocating legalized marital rape. It has been suggested that the reason 13 human beings had to die at Ft. Hood is because people were afraid to challenge Hasan regarding his outlandish statements for fear of an EEOC complaint which would end their careers. (funny, people don't seem to have any problem challenging me. Can you guess which "protected" group I am a member of?)

If this is true, then we the American people have allowed Political Correctness, taken to the extreme, to cloud our judgement to such an extent that we are unable to deal with clear and present dangers and credible threats.

Our methodologies for tracking and prosecuting foreign terrorists were ineffective preceding Sept 11, 2001 and they continue to be ineffective 8 years after that horrible event. Out of Control Political Correctness has clouded our judgement to the point where we are unable to modify a failed strategy even after the travesty of Sept 11.

We continue to behave with the same paralysing atrophy which gripped and crippled us leading up to Sept 11. We learned nothing from the mistakes leading up to Sept 11. We must continue to suffer the same fate until something in us changes or we finally succumb to attrition.

The most recent iteration exemplifying our failure is Nidal Hasan, who, if he was not affiliated with terrorists was at least inspired by them and most certainly felt affinity for them.

The Nidal Hasan story has all but disappeared and there has been absolutely no discussion as to how this man was counselling troubled troops and serving in an advisory capacity to our government. Thanks to mass media, the public has the attention span of gnat, even with topics of deadly serious concern to them. Ask a family who lost a loved one. They remember. But by all means, wait for the next Atta or Hasan to have a chance to murder your family. Be silent. Say nothing. Maintain the status quo. Our opponents are waiting and hoping we behave just as stupidly as we have thus far.

Why would the fact that this has happened again on American soil be so incomprehensible?

We have seen, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that political correctness taken to the extreme can be hazardous to your health. As a whole I judge Americans to have been extremely patient with this process. The good American people have not advocated violence based on sex, religion, race or orientation. I heard no strong condemnation of the incident which occurred at Ft. Hood. Instead I heard a veiled threat against the citizenry of this country who might be offended by what occurred at Ft. Hood. The American people have a right to be offended by what is happening in this country. The American people are offended. I see evidence of it everywhere. They are offended by policies and entities which cast them as the antagonists while propping up and supporting the true threat.

I support the original intent of Political Correctness. To protect those who would be singled out and persecuted due to some characteristic not possessed by the majority. You will have little trouble selling the need for this protection in America. This stands as an affirmation of the greatness and tolerance of the American people. Perhaps you should go try to sell PC elsewhere, perhaps some country where the citizens don't practice it and may benefit from it. You've done all the good you can do with PC here, perhaps a bit too much.

Point three should be obvious given U.S. History from Enron to present which contributed to 10% unemployment. Suffice it to say, you need accountants and Financial officers who are honest regarding the bottom line. You may want your salespeople to be enthusiastic and creative, but this is not what your want from your accounting team. Actually, it's better for everyone involved if both your salespeople and your accountants are "accurate".

Point two is equally self explanatory. Unless this Hardware and/or Software was created on open standards, you will be unable to obtain support, documentation or anything which might provide relief should you encounter a problem. If the hardware fails, you will not be able to get a replacement. The same goes for the software. Point two is also an excellent argument against closed standards and proprietary, license bound software and hardware.

Finally we come back to point one. I will not belabor this point. Monetary losses due to computer hacking and social engineering are real, tangible losses. There are plenty of statistics available for reported losses from computer crime. Due to the technical nature of software and hardware flaws I would venture to say most losses in this area go unnoticed or unreported leading losses to be under reported. I shudder to think how much money has been funneled directly into criminal enterprise and enemy states due to point one.

I wonder if she has any opinions on Sharia Law? I would be surprised if she received any credit for her bravery from the media or the government. It might upset the finer sensibilities of the radicals who would like to cut our throats. If it were up to me, the medal ceremonies and interviews wouldn't stop. I don't like it when cops write me tickets but I reckon if they shoot a terrorist or two here or there I forgive em.

I can't help but feel a bit sorry for the base commander at this point. Why was this wacko wandering around armed on base? Why was a female civilian police officer the first responder? Why were none of the other soldiers able to respond? Do you train soldiers at that base or what? Maybe we should send the police to fight Al Qaeda and the Taliban. The fact is that the guy was familiar with the base and picked out a spot where he knew there wouldn't be any resistance, even though it was reported that the coward told a passing civilian that he was targeting only soldiers.
